HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM - J*CONNECT for  9th, 10th, 11th & 12th Grade
Meets on a variety of days/times depending on the program
J*Connect, is TSWE's teen Jewish experience focused around the values of Leadership, Social Action, Education, and Community.
  • Teens have the choice to participate in a variety of programs offered throughout the year including classes with the Rabbi, challah baking, holiday celebrations, Tikkun Olam Teens, and social justice programs.
  • Programs, classes, and events will take place both inside and outside of the temple and online. Some are monthly, 6-week sessions, or once a year.
  • J*Connect teens have the opportunity to work as Madrichim in the Religious School guiding our younger students toward a positive Religious School experience. The Madrichim assist in the classroom, act as mentors to our younger students. Madrichim can also assist with Tefilah, work in the office, or shadow a student with a disability or learning challenge. Leadership training, supervision, and resources are provided. Students can be paid or earn community service hours. Madrichim work on Tuesdays 4:00-5:45pm or Wednesdays 4:00-5:45pm.
Sample of J*Connect Offerings:
Challenges and Choices: A Jewish Teen’s Guide to a Balanced Life
A chance for teens to practice ways to become more confident and find more balance…. guided by Rabbi Groffman and using Jewish wisdom. This class will provide a “toolbox” of skills to choose from when life gets challenging and choices get hard.
Israel 101
What is Zionism? How and Why was Israel created? These are a few of the important questions that will be explored in Israel 101 to help teens gain a basic understanding of Israel.
Midnight Run
A class to learn about homelessness and plan Midnight Run. Then it's off to NYC to distribute food, clothing, blankets and personal care items directly to homeless people living on the streets.
Tikkun Olam Teens
A hands-on service-learning program where students explore social justice from a Jewish perspective. We are planning that Tikkun Olam teens will have the opportunity to volunteer together at a few social service agencies throughout Essex County.
Trip to Philadelphia
We will explore Philadelphia through a Jewish lens discovering sights of Jewish relevance, as well as significant American historic places. We will have fun and strengthen our connections with each other.
Dinner & A Movie
All aspects of Jewish life can be found in film: the beauty, the Jewish soul and wit, the drama, and the tragedy of the human experience.  This class will teach our young people about our collective story while they are entertained, and give them opportunities to connect, communicate, and of course, eat pizza.
